The Triangle (Restaurant)

The TriangleIf you’re in need of a night out at a fabulous place with guaranteed fabulous food and atmosphere and lashings of individuality, you need to get to The Triangle. This popular little hideaway is an absolute gem of a restaurant that nestles snugly between Crouch End and Finsbury Park and the moment you walk through the door your every sense is stimulated. A unique and absolutely stunning bar/restaurant run by Aziz Begdouri, I had the pleasure of being introduced to the place 5 years ago, when it first opened, and, quite simply, I haven’t found better. The décor is warm, inviting, a seamless blend of art from all over the world, lush plants, fountains in the windows (yes, really), a roaring fire in the winter and in the summer a simply exquisite garden that features a kind of. …well, I don’t even know that there’s a word for it, you’ll just have to go and see for yourself. Oh, and did I mention the upside-down bedroom on the ceiling…?
As if this wasn’t enough to relish, the food here is nothing short of remarkable – and I don’t say that often! A seasonally changing and highly original menu offers up such delights as pork fillet with apple and potato gratin and a light mustard sauce, seared tuna steak with a crunchy noodle basket, accompanied by baked egg, oriental sauce and beetroot crisps, and for the veggies a typical dish might be gratin of stuffed aubergine with vegetable ratatouille, cheese sauce and sunflower seeds. And of course there are the favourites that just couldn’t go away because of the constant demand from the regulars; Mediterranean fishcakes – 100% fish, bought locally and always fresh – served with homemade chips (unbeatable!), fresh salad and traditional Moroccan harissa sauce; the Triangle parcel starter which consists of pakchoi, roasted peppers and goats cheese stuffed in a filo pastry parcel, grilled, and drizzled with a pistachio and mustard dressing; and the lamb burger – again homemade and full of spices, so good you’d be hard pushed to find a better burger. And I haven’t even mentioned the desserts yet! Yes, you guessed it, homemade and delicious enough to make you weep! Anything from Bailey’s cheesecake to French tart with almond frangipane, although if you prefer a liquid dessert, I’d highly recommend the strawberry daiquiri!
