The Old Cider House is a 4 star (Visit Britain) bed and breakfast in the heart of the village of Nether Stowey in the Quantock Hills, West Somerset. Owners Ian and Lynne welcome guests looking for a relaxing break in their friendly five bedroom guesthouse. Built in 1910, the guesthouse was originally a cider house serving the village of Nether Stowey and surrounding Somerset villages in the Quantock Hills. It was converted into a bed and breakfast in 2002 and has since welcomed guests looking for quality en-suite accommodation in the heart of Somerset.
The Quantock Hills are on the doorstep and the village of Nether Stowey boasts three real ale pubs which are less than a few minutes walk from the bed and breakfast. Samuel Taylor Coleridge also lived in the Village and his house is open to the public (NT).
If you are looking for an activity break, then The Old Cider House is the accommodation for you. Catering for walkers and mountain bikers, bed and breakfast guests have 60 square miles of walking country and mountain bike trails all within a mile of the B and B. So get your walking boots on or hose down that mountain bike and join us here in the Quantock Hills.

Three nights Christmas Breaks
Tea by the log fire, carols on the Village Square, candlelit dinners, turkey and all the trimmings, strolls into the beautiful Quantock Hills, presents delivered by a Labrador!… Just a few of the Christmas highlights at The Old Cider House.
For the past 9 years we have run Christmas and New Year house parties for a maximum of 10 guests in our Edwardian guesthouse in the heart of England’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Guests can relax in one of our 5 en-suite rooms (doubles, twins and single occupancy), join in the conversation in front of our roaring open fire or get out in the fresh air of our quiet historic village and the fantastic surrounding countryside. Meals are taken together in our dining room where we also have the odd quiz or fun game.
You can do as much or as little as you want. Fancy sitting quietly reading a novel or completing the crossword in the firelight – perfect, or perhaps you’d rather be chatting over a glass of wine and a hand of rummy. It’s your choice.
Your hosts, Lynne and Ian, love Christmas as much as the guests, making sure everyone is well looked after. Food is traditional but occasionally with a slight twist, wine and beer from their own microbrewery is included in the price. Guests should leave the table pleasantly replete.
We always have a mix of guests staying, so you will never feel out of place. No one is too old or young to attend – as long as they love Christmas. We even allow well behaved dogs.

New Year Breaks
Our New Year break starts on the 31st with tea and cake by the roaring log fire before an hour or two to relax before the evening festivities begin.
Enjoy a champagne cocktail before our special five course dinner, each course accompanied by an appropriate glass of wine or port. We even have a fun quiz before welcoming in the New Year with a final glass of bubbly.
On New Years’ Day we kick off with a bucks fizz breakfast to set you up for a day either exploring the area or just mooching around and sitting in front of the open fire. There’s the opportunity to visit our local pub for a midday drink and possibly taking an afternoon stroll around the Quantocks.
In the evening we enjoy a three course dinner and perhaps a game or two – if guests are up to it.
The break ends on 2nd January after a hearty full English (or continental) breakfast.
It is possible to add on 30th December on a D,B&B basis for £60pp
