The Sun Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, which has been an important landmark of historic Hitchin since the 1500’s.
The hotel is a favourite with locals, businessmen and leisure travellers alike who come to enjoy the excellent meals on offer here.
The Restaurant serves a wide range of food from around the world and traditional English favourites.
Cromwells bar is a thriving night spot frequented by locals and hotel guests alike.
Hosting Your Functions
There are 5 meeting and conference rooms, as well as a superb ballroom, which caters for up to 150 guests. We specialise in Weddings and parties and have a dedicated functions co-ordinator to assist you with your every need.
All 32 comfortable en-suite bedrooms have a CD player as standard, as well as an iron and ironing board for your convenience. Two feature rooms including one with a four poster also available. Wireless internet is available throughout the hotel.
Hitchin has many lovely half-timbered buildings, a museum and an art gallery. Nearby attractions include the magnificent Knebworth House, Woburn Abbey, Dunstable Downs and Luton Hoo with its extensive grounds designed by Capability Brown. Further afield, is the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.
There are 32 attractively furnished en-suite bedrooms, with full facilities.
For a little luxury you may wish to book our Lavender room, with its four-poster bed.
The hotel has been at the centre of Hitchin’s way of life since its opening in 1523. It first rose to prominence during the English Civil War, when it served as the headquarters for the 3,000 parliamentary soldiers quartered in the town.

Arrive any time after 2pm for a very warm welcome, and settle into your comfortable en-suite bedroom. Unpack, relax and take a leisurely walk if the weather allows – or have a drive around
the immediate area.
A candlelit two-course dinner will be served in the restaurant between 6pm and 9pm.
Midnight Mass – local details are available at reception for guests wishing to attend.
Christmas Day
Start the day with our delicious home-cooked breakfast: fresh fruit, cereals, croissants or Danish pastries, followed by a full traditional English breakfast.
During the morning there will be plenty of time to relax and unwrap your presents before we serve your Christmas lunch from 12 noon!
In the evening our Chef will prepare a tempting buffet, served in the restaurant between 6pm and 9pm.
Boxing Day
A hearty breakfast will be served to prepare you for your journey home. Why not extend your stay with us and enjoy a delicious Boxing Day lunch before you go – or even join us for an extra night?
Our three-night packages include all of the above, plus lunch, dinner and overnight accommodation on Boxing Day with a full English breakfast on 27th December.
